5 Must Have Meal Prep Items on Amazon

In last week's article, we discussed the benefits of meal prep. I want to take this time to share some of my favorite meal prep items that have helped me save time.  One of my biggest challenges when I started meal prepping was spending almost all day in the kitchen, preparing meals for myself, packing lunch for my children, and getting dinner ready.  Some days I felt so defeated after realizing I spent the last day of my weekend meal prepping. This caused me to have a negative outlook on meal prep. However, once I started to discover little tricks and tips on how to save some time the process started to become a whole lot easier. So here are some items that I found helpful when meal prepping.

Bento Box

I found these meal prep containers on Amazon and ordered three different types one for myself and my husband who both work full time and take lunch, one for my elementary kids who are at school for 9 hours a day and are picky eaters and prefer a packed lunch and one for my high school kids who don’t like to take lunch but like to snack during school. These are reusable, inexpensive and one of my favorite things about them is they help with portion control. Each compartment is airtight most days I just grab a box out of my fridge throw it in my bag and go.

Plastic Dipping Containers

One of my kid’s favorite lunch choices is the pizza Lunchables so I decided to make a bento box version of these. These dipping cups come in handy, I will pack the sauce in these dipping cups along with other sauces like Ranch or Hummus for veggies and drop them in their bento boxes. I also find these useful for things like Egg or chicken salad. I can make my chicken salad ahead of time prepack them in the dipping cups and store them for up to a week. These containers are affordable and typically last me about two months, depending on what I pack for the week. They make clean-up easier by keeping the sauce contained, and the kids can simply throw them away when they are done.

Stainless Steel Dipping Containers

These are also a good option to use if you are like me and do not want to purchase plastic cups. They are reusable and airtight and will not spill.

Vegetable Chopper

This helps me save a lot of time when I am meal prepping breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It is one of my favorite items to use when I am making things like chicken or egg salad, salsa, guacamole, or sushi bowls.  It has 8 different blade settings and containers to store them and cut my dinner and meal preparation time in half.

Kids Hot Thermos

There are some nights when I meal prep soup, chili, mac and cheese, or spaghetti for dinner, and my kids will ask if they can take it for lunch. Whatever it is they are requesting, I will warm it up in the morning and pop it in their Thermos for lunch. Sometimes I will throw a chili together the night before in the crock pot, and in the morning, I will scoop some in their thermos and add it to their lunch. According to my kids, the items in their thermos stay hot until lunchtime. The Thermos comes with mini spoons and has a locking lid to make sure it does not spill in their lunch bags.
